Black Bear Safety in the Blue Ridge Mountains

About This Event
The North Georgia Mountains are home to a growing population of American black bears, and Blue Ridge sits right in the heart of bear country. While bear attacks are extremely rare, encounters are common โ especially near cabins, campgrounds, and hiking trails. Bears are most active from spring through fall and are attracted to unsecured garbage, bird feeders, pet food, and grills. Always store food in bear-proof containers or inside your vehicle. Never approach, feed, or photograph bears at close range. If you encounter a bear, make noise, appear large, and back away slowly. Report aggressive bear behavior to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources at (706) 276-2863.
